Tour of The College of Arms - 20 February 6.00pm

Tuesday 20 February, 6 for 6.15pm:

Tour of The College of Arms, followed by Reception with wine and canapés

The College of Arms was founded by Royal Charter in 1484 and is the official heraldic authority for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Commonwealth countries of which HM The King is Sovereign. As well as being responsible for the granting of new coats of arms, the College maintains official registers of arms, pedigrees, genealogies, Royal Licences, changes of name and flags and, as members of the Royal Household, its Officers take part in State Ceremonials such as Coronations and the State Opening of Parliament.

Thomas Johnston, Rouge Croix Pursuivant of Arms, will speak about the history of heraldry, the role of the heralds and the architecture of the building (over a glass of wine) and then spend an hour in the Record Room showing us a fascinating selection of heraldic and genealogical records dating back to the fourteenth century (NB the Record Room has no seating).

The visit continues with delicious canapés and a further glass (or two) of wine, during which further questions may be posed informally, and will conclude around 8.45pm.

Numbers are strictly limited to 20 and priority will be given to Anglo-Norse Society members but applications are welcomed from members of other societies who will be contacted for confirmation and payment nearer the day.

Cost: £49.50 (which includes a contribution to the work of the College)
