Guided tour of the new Aga Khan Centre

Guided tour of the new Aga Khan Centre

01 May 2025 1:45pm

Members and guests of the A-DS were given a conducted tour by a librarian of the new Aga Khan Centre at King’s Cross on Thursday 1st May 2025 at 1.45pm.

The Aga Khan Centre is the UK home for three organisations founded by His Highness Aga Khan IV, the hereditary spiritual leader of the Shi‘a Ismaili Muslims.
This building is designed to represent the values of openness, dialogue and respect for different viewpoints. The architecture incorporates a collection of gardens, courtyards and terraces that provides an insight into the diversity and influence of Islamic landscape design around the world and through history.
The building was designed by Fumihiko Maki, one of Japan’s most distinguished contemporary architects.
The tour will focus primarily on the 5 Islamic gardens which are part of the building (one garden on the top floor with amazing views over London), the library and the art collection.

Following the private tour, we walked to the café at Kings Place, and partook of coffee and cakes by Regents canal and enjoyed the afternoon sun before retuening home.  Many thanks to Palle for organising a most interesting and informative tour.
