Recital of Danish Songs from the time of Anna Ancher – Else Torp in Performance

The acclaimed Danish Soprano, Else Torp and the British pianist, Miles Lallemant will perform a special recital of traditional Danish songs from the times of Anna Ancher and the Skagen Painters, beautifully linking sight with sound for Anna Ancher: Painting Light.

The concert will bring together a rich array of music by Ancher’s contemporary composers, paying special attention to the female musicians who were pioneers in this time.

Else Torp

Else Torp sings in Paul Hillier’s Theatre of Voices, with whom she has performed around the world and also with contemporary ensembles such as London Sinfonietta, Smith Quartet and Kronos Quartet.

Artistic director of the Kronos Quartet David Harrington wrote: “As a violinist I judge the quality of my high notes by those I’ve heard Else Torp sing. What an inspiration.”

Recent UK concerts include BBC Philharmonic in Manchester/MIF and London Symphony Orchestra at Barbican Centre.

Her solo contributions on works by Arvo Pärt (Estonia), Galina Grigorjeva (Ukraine) and David Lang (US) have millions of listeners around the world.

Since 2016, the Danish soprano has also worked with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Miles Lallemant

Miles Lallemant began his musical education as a chorister at Llandaff Cathedral in Wales. While reading classics at Cambridge he sang with Jesus College Chapel Choir. He studied piano with Richard McMahon and Peter Katin.

As an accompanist, Miles has worked with Opera Ireland, NI opera and Ulster Orchestra and he is the musical director of the Kensington and Olympia Festival of Music and Arts.
